Photosynthesis is the process by which plants convert light energy into chemical energy. During photosynthesis, plants absorb carbon dioxide from the air through tiny pores called stomata and water from the soil through their roots. Using sunlight captured by chlorophyll in their leaves, plants combine CO2 and H2O to produce glucose and oxygen. The glucose provides energy for the plant's growth and metabolism, while oxygen is released as a byproduct.
